    Default Adding points to a database ( adding / subtrating numeric values)

    HI all,

    I have build a user database that comes with user points for browsing
    private section of my site.

    I would like to know what is the best way to add points and subtract points
    for a specific user.

    can i just do something like

    UPDATE mytable SET userpts = +10 where username = '$username' ?

    or

    UPDATE mytable SET userpts = -5 where username = '$username' ?

    being a newbie , i am not familiar with mathematical functions and Mysql.

    Can anyone advise me on this subject or tell me if my example is ok.

    Thank you very much.

    Hi,

    I dont't really know if I'm getting you right, but this has to a valid
    SQL-Statement for sure:

    UPDATE mytable SET userpts = userpts + 10 where username = '$username';
