Default Address

Hi,

I am just starting to use contribute over an already designed webpage. I seem
to have most of it worked out the only thing is how to change the web
address.... I am a travel agent, so I am adding more tours to my website, I am
doing this by making editing over and old page and changing the wording and
pictures to keep the layout the same, but I am not sure how to change the name
for the address bar when someone types the address in so for example.

http://www.gowalkabouttravel.com/china-yangtze-cruise/index.html

I want to change this after the www.gowalkabouttravel.com/ to the name of the
new tour .... can someone tell me how I can rename the new tour page, and still
keep the original tour and its address on my site.

Thanks

Default Re: Address

The part of the url that you refer to is the name of a folder on your webserver.

To create a new folder:
1. open contribute
2. next to the addressbar click the Choose-button
3. create a new folder by clicking the button on top of the now open screen
4. name the folder as you like

To create pages in that new folder:
1. create a new page as you used to do
2. save this in your new folder

If you want users to be able to browse to
http://www.gowalkabouttravel.com/new_folder, without entering a specific
filename, you have to put an index.html (or .htm or.php, whatever) in the
folder.

Default Re: Address

Thanks for the info, could the address be
www.gowalkabouttravel.com/beijing-kunming-china-tour/index.html ?
Also do I always do this part at the beginning before I start designing the
page?

Thanks..

Default Re: Address

P.S I am having a tough time saving the new page to the new folder... it keeps
trying to save to the folder of the page that I have used to design the new
tour over, and I do not want to overwrite the older tour just use the layout of
the tour page... when I try and do a save as it will not allow me, I only see
save and save for later in the list, so I am not sure how to save this work
into the actual new folder itself.

Thanks...

You always create the folder first, because you can't Publish a page to a folder that doesn't exist.

Yes but at what time does it ask me what folder I wish to publish the page too?
that is the part I am confused with... I now know how to create a new folder,
but I am not seeing in my list of saving something a save as to change the
folder name so I can save the new tour page into the new name.

1. in the menu, click File, New...
2. give the page a title name and click OK
3. you now see the page in Contribute and you edit and click Publish
4. you get a warning that visitors cannot yet find your page, which you fix
later by linking to the new page
5. you get to choose a filename and at the right of the field you can click
the Choose button to choose the folder you want to save the page in.
