Default Adobe 4 and Readers 3 and 6 will not open certain pdfs off the web

We have been trying to open Manuals which are in the pdf form on the internet. The page goes blank and the counter bar sticks at half done, with nothing else happening. There has also been a Plug in Error message at 1 stage. On 1 of the downloads that did work the language was unreadable and in mixed letters even though it was in English.

William,

What happens when you download and then open locally?

William,

Sorry - what fails - the download or opening the pdf? Can you give us the full text of the message? Can you give us a link to any/one of these files? What OS are you running on?

Once we have the answers to these questions hopefully we can provide more helpful advice.

Arthur,
1)When we use the download option in Adobe Writer 4, under Error Nothing Done it says Error Code: 'Copying PDF Failed' URL: (as below)

2)The following is a like to just 1 of the pdf files that will not open there is 5 altogether (ithers from the same do site work)
www.cic.gc.ca/manuals-guides/english/op/op02e.pdf

3)We are running Windows Me.

We have had pdfs from the site beofre and even managed to open these ones a while back but they have since been updated (which we need) since when we have not been able to open them
Thanks William

William,

I can open this document in both Reader 5.1.0 and 6.0.1 without problem.

It sounds as though the problem may lie with your ISP/internet link.

If you right click and choose save as from the links on the www.cic.gc.ca/manuals-guides/english/op page and save them to your desktop can you then open them from within Reader without problem?

Just to let you know that your advise worked and we are now able to open the manuals in Adobe 6 without any trouble. Thank you very much for your time.

William,

No problem - glad to be of assistance.

Thank you for coming back to tell us it worked - not enough people do that.

All the best,
