Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional won't open

Default Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional won't open

Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional was installed with CS 2. Just recently, for some reason when trying to open an Acrobat file the message "The application Acrobat quit unexpectedly" comes up and pressing the "reopen" button does not open the program and gives me the same message. I've tried multiple Acrobat files with the same result. They do open in other programs. I think I may need to reload the program but could not find it in any of the installation disks. Which disk is it on? Do I need to reload the entire suite? If I do not need to reload, what else?

    Thanks, Bruce

Worthwhile disabling any fonts you might have added recently, removing
Acrobat preferences and running a disk maintenance tool ...

PS - creating a new user account and trying Acrobat would prove a point ..

    Hi Jon,

Thanks for your suggestions. I have not added any fonts, recently or ever. I have run disk utility and Onyx maintenance and cleaning. At your suggestion I created a new user. So far all to no avail. When you say to remove Acrobat preferences, from which library -- the main library or my User->Library->Acrobat User Data->7.0 foler? There is also a System Folder Preference folder called Acrobat with another folder inside called WHAPI and a file Adobe Online Prefs. Please excuse my ignorance about all these folders and preferences. I really don't know what it's all about.

Will it hurt anything if I remove Acrobat preference files that maybe I shouldn't delete?

I do not use Acrobat 7.0 very frequently so cannot say when this problem arose, but I do know it was recently. Maybe even yesterday when I accidentally installed Acrobat 5.0 when I really wanted to install Acrobat for Palm. When I saw Acrobat 5.0 in the application list I immediately removed it, as well as any files that seemed associated.

What do you think about reinstalling all of CS 2 since I do not know which of the four disks has Acrobat?

    Thanks again for your thoughts.

there should be a crash log. Also, try logging in under a different user account and see if the crash persists

    Hi MarkATS,

As you suggest, I went to the crash log and the window "Problem and system information:" is very long and there is little there I understand. The only reference to crash is near the beginning when twice is says: Thread 0 Crashed.

Following the first reference to crash the text looks like this:

    Thread 0 Crashed:
    0 <<00000000>> 0x018a1410 0 + 25826320
    1 Acrobat 0x25057dd0 RunAcrobat + 316644
    2 Acrobat 0x25057ce4 RunAcrobat + 316408
    3 Acrobat 0x2500e5e0 RunAcrobat + 15604
    4 Acrobat 0x2500cd8c RunAcrobat + 9376
    5 Acrobat 0x2500c83c RunAcrobat + 8016
    6 Acrobat 0x2500b684 RunAcrobat + 3480

    10 com.adobe.Acrobat.Pro 0x00001cb8 0x1000 + 3256

The text of the second "crash" looks like this, in part.

Thread 0 crashed with PPC Thread State 64:
    srr0: 0x00000000018a1410 srr1: 0x100000000208f030 vrsave: 0x0000000000000000

If this means something to you diagnostically, I am impressed. Your idea of logging in under a different user account, I did try, without luck.

Thanks for your thoughts and time. Bruce
