Adobe Acrobat (Full) 5.0.5 --> Adobe Reader 6.0.1
We've got a nice Adobe Reader 6.0.1 install working here, with one problem: If Adobe Acrobat (a.k.a. "full" or "Adobe Writer") v5.0.5 is on the machine when we install Reader v6.0.1, then the PC looses [a] it's file association for .PDF (the icons is blank, and the system asks you to browse to choose an application to open the file), and [b] it's ability to open PDFs inside Internet Explorer (it gives an error message stating "Could not find Adobe Acrobat"). Otherwise, both programs are installed and working successfully on the system.
I've dug around in the Registry and found evidence of an incomplete install of Reader 6.0.1; the file association at HKCR\.pdf is missing entirely, and many of the pieces that belong under HKCR\AcroExch.Document are missing, too. All of this is normally installed cleanly with Reader 6.0.1, although the Windows Installer component that holds this info ("ReaderRegistryIntegration") doesn't have a key set.
Any ideas? TIA-- ~ewall

Re: Adobe Acrobat (Full) 5.0.5 --> Adobe Reader 6.0.1
Bingo! Found it... On the above-mentioned component ("ReaderRegistryIntegration") there's a condition that prevents it from being installed if an older version of the full Acrobat program (versions 4, 5 or 6) is found. Removing this condition allows the Reader 6.0.1 MSI to always update the file associations.
