Default Adobe CS2 looses live text fields in PDF files when saved back out

We have a customer that provides us with PDF files that contain text fields. We need to add graphics in AICS2 and then save the PDF file back out. When we open the PDF file into Acrobat 8, the text fields are gone; deleted. This was an issue back in AI 8.0 as well. HELP!
    Thanks

Exactly - Illustrator does not support/understand form fields ...

Just update the artwork in Illustrator and use the REPLACE PAGES Command
in Acrobat (this keeps the field top layer)

I guess I don't understand how you can update artwork in Illustrator and not save the file. It's the saving part that destroys the PDF. Illustrator 9 and 10 did not have this issue. Please expand.

    1. Back up your file. Things will go wrong with this process so being
able to start again is vital.

    2. Make a COPY of the file.

    3. Edit THE COPY to change page contents.

    4. Open the ORIGINAL file.

    5. Use Document > Replace pages to replace pages from the new file.

    6. Save this original file with a new name; this is now your new
    master.

Thanks, but that did not work. When I replace the original page with the new page, the tab fields still get deleted.

Did you place these fields using Acrobat form fields tools?

Explain your workflow in more detail ...

We receive a four page PDF file generated by our customer. Page 1, 3 and 4 contain form fields that they created in Acrobat. When you open one of their PDF files in Acrobat, all of the fields contain text that they added within Acrobat.

They require us to overlay our graphics on their dielines to page 1. This needs to be done in AICS2. When we add our graphics and "save" the file to retain the graphics we added, the form fields disappear when we reopen them in Acrobat. This did not happen when we used AI9 and AI10. The fields are lost only on page 1 as that was the only page we "saved" from AICS2. Page 3 and 4 retain their form fields. We could simply retype what they originally submitted, but they don't want us to do that and I don't want that responsibility either.
