Adobe Fonts... specifically Myriad
Why is it that this font will only appear in Illustrator or Photoshop. It's not a true type font that I can find, and only found it as a fluke in a PageMaker directory. Can someone explain these adobe fonts?
Thanks,
Justin

Re: Adobe Fonts... specifically Myriad
And Myriad is even the default font in Illy.
Maybe it is to learn us all to work with the AIPrefs file.

Re: Adobe Fonts... specifically Myriad
Adobe fonts that are installed with any of the CS programs install into their own folder, which is not the windows/fonts directory. Usually they are under "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts".
In order to use them in another program, I would either use a font manager program, or move them over to "c:\windows\fonts".

Re: Adobe Fonts... specifically Myriad
Jonathan, the same seems to apply to AI10/PS7.
When you delete the AIPrefs file, Myriad returns as default. Is it possible to get rid of it by moving it out of the ...\Adobe\Fonts folder?

"Jonathan, the same seems to apply to AI10/PS7."
Yep, it does. I meant it applied to Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc... not those specific versions. I should have been more clear.
There was a thread around here just a little bit ago that you posted in <http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx?13@@.3bb3dfe7/25> that talks about this. Because the Default font is stored in your preferences, if you reset/delete them, your Myriad font comes back as Default. It's kind of a fact of life, I guess. It's why I back up my preferences when I know they're working if I'm going to make some changes to it.

Oh! I see what you are saying... I would just try it and see, I guess... You can't hurt anything too bad. You still have the fonts on the CD.

Re: Adobe Fonts... specifically Myriad
Justin,
Just to add a bit to what's been explained already, fonts that get installed as part of the CS suite (into the aforementioned Adobe "Common" fonts folder) are OpenType fonts.
The Myriad that was installed as the default font in IL 10 was a Postscript Type 1 font. I don't know of any straight TrueType fonts that got installed with an Adobe application.
If you want to use any of them in non-Adobe applications, you should be able to "install" them using the standard Windows font installation procedure. In some cases, a font manager, such as ATM, might be required.
