Adobe Illustrator 9.0.1 crashing on shutdown (2nd post info request)
I have not heard anything from anyone for a month so I am going to try one more time in the hopes someone will be able to help me. My adobe illustrator 9.0.1 is crashing my computer everytime I shut the program down. I am running a 300mhz. Blue & White G3 mac with OS 9.2.2. I have installed the program on the MacHD and the problem continues. I have removed the program and installed it in the applications folder where my Adobe Golive and other programs reside and the same thing happens. I have reverted to the Mac OS 9.2.2 extenstions restarted the computer and installed under those and the same problem. I have also turned off the auto protect feature of my Norton Antivirus, placed the extensions on my desktop when doing an install and again same problem. I can use the program just find and can also save artwork with no problem, just when I shut down it causes the computer to crash and I have to press the reset button every time. I know there has to be someone out here in these forums that have had the same problem and can give me some tips on what to do to end this problem. This problem started a few months ago and when I first got the program I never had any problems like this at all. Thanks again to all for any help or info. Allen Wade

Allen, go to your system folder, and then to Preferences, find Illustrator file and throw away the preferences within the file.
This is done with all programs closed. Restart for the luck of it.

Re: Adobe Illustrator 9.0.1 crashing on shutdown (2nd post info request)
Dee thank you for the tip but I'm sorry to say this WILL NOT work either.
I have also tried down loading the 9.0.2 updater and re installed from scratch but still the program wants to crash the computer, so If anyone else out here has any suggestions that might help would be of great help at this time!
Thanks again to all!

Have you checked for corrupt fonts?

Re: Adobe Illustrator 9.0.1 crashing on shutdown (2nd post info request)
No and I have a ton of fonts in my font directory. Any suggestions on how or should I just start removing them till it stops crashing?
I have run norton disk doctor but nothing shows up there,of course it may not show that?? Thanks again, I will try when I get home from work.

Re: Adobe Illustrator 9.0.1 crashing on shutdown (2nd post info request)
To start if you have ATM you can verify fonts and it will tell you if any are damaged in red. Although it's not always accurate.
Shutting them off and then running AI will be better. Then if that fixes it you can start turning on a couple at a time until you can duplicate the crash and find the culprit(s).

Re: Adobe Illustrator 9.0.1 crashing on shutdown (2nd post info request)
Dee thanks for the heads up, upon arriving at home thisafternoon and talking to a gentleman at work I have discovered the problem and hopefully have corrected it.
When I said I had a ton of fonts, I forgot just how many, 1,128!
I cut it down to 680 and so far knock on wood no more crashing problems. Just what I get for being a font freek. Thanks once again for all your help and tips, God bless you, Allen

Re: Adobe Illustrator 9.0.1 crashing on shutdown (2nd post info request)
And again I ask, do you have a font manager? I'm a font freak too but I seem to manage my fonts well, so far.
I use ATM for now, and of course do not have all my fonts turned on. I use a minimal amount and have the program load them if I need them. I also use the tools that come with ATM, like managing duplicates and font conflicts, as well as verifying for corrupt fonts from time to time.
Also do not have the same system fonts running with postscript fonts in your manager. This causes problems as well.
But if you don't have a font manager, and you have that many fonts in your system folder, you're just looking for trouble.

Re: Adobe Illustrator 9.0.1 crashing on shutdown (2nd post info request)
A font manager will help you Allen but what you might want to do on your downtime is add a few fonts at a time and see if the crash returns keep track of what you add each time and when it does crash and it will you can trouble shoot that group and find the corrupt font, there may be more than one and so trouble shoot all the remaining fonts to make sure. More than likely you will be able to reinstall a healthy copy of those fonts.
Also you should to be on the safe side delete the AdobeFnt.lst, AdobeFnt01.lst, AdobeFnt05.lst and AdobeFnt06.lst files anywhere you can find them on your hard drive(s). You should do that even though it is not crashing. They be corrupt and only triggered when a particular font(s) are activated or used.
