adobe illustrator for comics
Hello there. Is Adobe Illustrator the best software for coloring and laying out comics - comics in digital format? Is it the industry standard? If not, what is? Thanks in advance for anyone who offers advice.

Re: adobe illustrator for comics
It all depends, Beau. If you want to entirely draw the images in Illustrator, and you can draw good in Ill, then it is an good option. Otherwise, if you draw faster by hand, and want to scan in and color images, then Photoshop is the best. If you want to animate, then Flash is best, as the drawing technique is similer to Illustrator. I am currently designing a comic/anime in Illustrator, but haven't decided if I want to do the whole thing in Ill yet.

Re: adobe illustrator for comics
Jonathan,
Thanks so much for your post. Yes, I would be scanning in, using the software to color and arrange graphics. So it looks like photoshop. And good luck with your comic/anime.

Re: adobe illustrator for comics
Keeping in mind that neither Photoshop or Illy are suitable for the actual Page Layout part of things. You will need InDesign for that! I'd just get all three programs to be on the safe side! (You have my address for the commission cheque, right Adobe? :))

Re: adobe illustrator for comics
I really think you all underestimate using Illustrator for page layout. Other than needing to make a separate document for each page I see no problems. And, if you are using it to do comics, Illustrator and Photoshop are really great partners.

Re: adobe illustrator for comics
And, Beau, if you need all three, it would be best and a lot less expensive to purchase the Adobe Creative Suite for publishing <http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/main.html> which will include all three, plus Adobe Acrobat Professional CS (6.0.1). Adobe Go Live, and Adobe Vision Cue.
