Default Adobe PDF 7.0 desktop printer stops all jobs automatically

I am trying to convert a bunch of Illustrator EPS files to PDF. I would open the file, hit Command-P, select "Adobe PDF 7.0" from my printer list, and select Print. A little white printer would pop-up in my dock, the print file would be processed, and a PDF file would show up on my desktop.

The process worked great except it simply appended ".pdf" to the file name that already had ".eps". So, I would end up with a file like "017-0000-0153-00A.eps.pdf". I didn't like this behavior, so I tried opening Distiller and seeing if there was any checkbox that would replace an old file extension with ".pdf". Well, no such luck, so I go back to work.

But NOW, whenever I do the same procedure listed above, the stupid Adobe PDF 7.0 printer immediately gives up and stops my jobs. It's as if I opened up the printer window and hit the Stop Jobs button right away. It does not matter which program I print from; a simple TextEdit document produces the same result. If I try to start the jobs again, it appears to try for a second or two, then stops my jobs again!!!

Here's a screenshot of what happens immediately after trying to print a page:

Restarting my computer does not solve the problem. I have not attempted to delete the printer or reinstall anything. I have Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional installed on my Dual 2.0 GHz Power Mac running Mac OS 10.3.9, with 2.0 GB RAM.

Delete the printer and re-install. Ask Acrobat to Detect and Repair
Errors. Then fix permissions. All should be well.

Tiger 10.4.1, same symptom. Deleting the printer as suggested failed to resolve the problem.

I had the same problem when creating pdf files from Illustrator. I trashed the Illustrator and Acrobat preferences and it works fine now.
