Default Adobe PDF documents have image artifacts

    Hey guys,

Does anyone else have this issue when SAVE AS... PDF is used?

I am using a normal AI doc. I SAVE AS... PDF. I choose "Press" options and then switch the Acrobat Version to 6.0 compatible. I hit SAVE PDF. It saves. I open the file in Acrobat. Now here is the problem. Anywhere I placed or imported a transparent GIF or PSD doc (rasterized already), there is an odd white faint box around it. In other words, I have a nice pretty beach background. I place a PSD document into the file and position the psd document (its a logo) in the center of the page. I save as PDF and then when I open it, there is a rectangular box around that logo. And guess what. It prints that box too.

Is there anything I am missing? Perhaps a setting or something? Can I make it so that Illustrator saves as a PDF that is NOT layered? That might be it, I dunno.

    Thanks,
    Jay

    I'm having this problem too.

I imported a PSD file all with nice transparent text and images ... the layers are now objects and when exported to a PDF all of a sudden no transparency but this faint box.

What have I missed? Any help appreciated.

Hi Gang, the I posted the same thing today about my PDF conversion. I am using 300dpi TIF files and getting the same White edges on the North. West and South portions of my optimized PDF files. The East side of the images don't have anything happening to it however. PDF Writer will optimize this down with no White lines, but why in Illustrator??

I have this problem with Illustrator (ver 9.02) as well. I have placed tif files in the background, then entered the text in a text box on top of that. When I tried to save as a pdf, everywhere there was a return (between paragraphs) it put a square. It also put a white box around the title that I typed in. When I use the Acrobat Distiller to print to, it resolves the issues. So I guess you can't "Save As" a pdf but you can "Print" to one. I hope someone out there has an explanation as to why this happens.
