Default Adobe pdfs opening in 'Preview' rather than Reader

A bit of a strange one this:

On my Mac I originally had Adobe Acrobat Professional 6 in my Mac OS X Applications folder, along with Adobe Reader 5 in my Mac OS 9 Applications folder.

Whenever I had a pdf file sent to me/downloaded it opened automatically in Professional 6.
After trialing a document I made in Reader 5, all of my default pdfs opened in that! Which was annoying.

I then downloaded Reader 7, so I had a better Reader, and got rid of Reader 5.

However, now ALL pdf files are previewed with on screen with the default Mac Preview icon and automatically open in Preview, rather than Professional 6 or Reader 7!

How can I change this so that they open automatically in an Acrobat program?

Any help would be greatly received!

Chhose one of the PDF files in the finder. Click to view the "Info" (or press Command I).

Look at the info window and open the arrow that says "Open with". Change to what you want and click the "change all" button.

What an easy fix!! I had the same problem this morning.

Yesterday, for some reason my pdf files started opening with 5. Don't know why - so I ditched 5 and all of the icons changed to the Preview icon and that's how they opened. Even opening them within Acrobat and saving them as a pdf file didn't work. Sometimes things are too easy.

    Thanks!

Well the fix listed does work. But what is causing new pdf files that are downloaded to only be opened in preview unless you make the change. They used to save as normal pdf files. I could probably reinstall the software - just thinking there must be something easy I'm overloking. Thanks.

    John,

Depending on how the file was created, you may have to do this to various PDF's until it takes for all of them.
