Adobe's arrogance
Just need to whinge here for a minute...In AI10 on XP if you create a Template layer using the Layer Options dialog box, you'd get all indications of a template layer *except* for the layer not being locked. In their infinite wisdom and total arrogance, Adobe has not fixed the bug in CS (yes I reported it in AI10, and just did again).
I notice in the CS version of Visual Quickstart Guide, the authors bow to the bug by showing a screen shot of the layer being locked but the text says "...and any nested layers or objects in that layer are supposed (my emphasis) to be locked." Can't say as I know what else the authors could have done.
There's a no-brainer workaround. It just annoys me that Adobe hasn't bothered to 1. Acknowledge the bug, or 2. Fix it.
Cheers, Toni

Adobe's monopoly... Open standards MUST be accountedfor!
Alright as a linux user I am very disatisfied with adobe's handling of linux as of late. Its like we linux users dont exist to them, and like most... -
Are Adobe's Apps Tiger ready
Are Adobe's Apps Tiger ready. Will the Creative suite programs operate under tiger. I can't find updates so I assume they aren't necessary. -

Yes, you click the the little box to lock the layer. A challenging task, but I'm sure most of us are up to it.

I can imagine this sitting somewhere dead last on Adobe's list of bugs to fix. It's a tiny issue that is easily correctable by the user.
BTW, if you select a layer and choose "Template" from the flyout box it will lock the layer.

You got it in one, Oliver. Like I said, it's a no-brainer work around. I rather imagine that's how the author of the QuickStart book got the screenshot.

And probably just as easily correctable as fixing a line or two of code. But considering some of the rather significant problems with CS, I'd prefer that the engineers work on those. It just annoys me that it worked in AI9, got broke in AI10, and probably will remain so for a few more version.
Cheers, Toni
