Advantages of Contribute?
I currently know dreamweaver to some extent. I have been hired to create a
website for a client that wants to be able to make modifications in the future
on their own. I am not experienced enough to write my own CMS and I don't want
to spend a lot of money on a high end program. Their current site is created
using Swish. I would most likely be recreating this site using flash. What is
the advantage of using Contribute over other free or less expensive softwares,
like contenteditable?

Re: Advantages of Contribute?
It's WYSIWYG. And really simple to use for website editors. But you can't really update a Flash website using Contribute.

Re: Advantages of Contribute?
After a quick glance at contenteditable, I'd say the differences are:
* Contribute works with IE, Firefox (and I think Opera) too - contenteditable
seems to be IE 5.5+ only
* Contribute supports optional sections and repeatable sections - so, much
more flexible for the designer.
* Contribute allows the designer to limit user edits to pre-set styles, to
allow bold/underline/italic or not, and so on.
But Contribute isn't perfect.
If you don't have Dreamweaver, I don't see a ready way to create the coding
that defines editable regions etc. Theoretically, you could write that by hand
- but there seems to be no published documentation on that coding.
Also, I've hit a nasty with margin-top and margin-bottom (Contribute specifies
both of these as zero when a paragraph is added, even though the style may
specify different). And documentation on Server Side Includes is poor (I have
yet to resolve an issue with how to allow controlled editing of SSI content).

Re: Advantages of Contribute?
You can create editable regions for Contribute by using hand-coding and it's
not that difficult. Combined with SSI you can create template-like solutions
without the use of Dreamweaver.
