Advice needed on using web safe colours for a new logo in AI10...
Hi there!
I'm designing a new logo to be used in print and on the web. It seems like a good idea to use web safe colours for the logo to achieve consistency in both formats.
So I'm using the AI 10 web palette of swatches. Once I've picked a swatch, I can get the CMYK reading. But I wonder what the best method is for establishing the closest pantone colour to your web safe colour.
Do I hold my pantone swatch up to the screen? but displays all vary....
Do I hold my pantone swatch up to a high res proof? my proofer is high quality, but that seems a bit dodgey too.
Thanks for any tips. I am still very green about web related stuff.

Web safe colour ar a anachronism to be purged from all reference materials.
And, since the image is for print, you do not want CMYK values, but RGB values. All screen vary, so the only way to guess what the image will look like is to see it in a web browser, preferably a bad (ie: Windows) one.

Pick the Pantone color you want for the print logo, because that's the only place you're gonna get any consistency.
Every monitor is different and to try to be consistent there is impossible.
Once you choose the Pantone for print, try to get as close as you can choosing a color on the screen for the web.
Foget web safe colors, they are history. 99.9% of monitors out there today can display more colors than the web palette has.

O thanks you guys.
I really appreciate your help.
Web safe ...er....what...?
See! I'm already forgetting all about them!
Back to my tried & tested Pantone swatch then.
