I don't have the answer, but I put a short sentence in that file you described
and noticed the following:

1. I created a new blanc page
2. When I published this blank page the sentence I put in C:\Program
Files\Adobe\Adobe Contribute CS3\Configuration\Templates\Default.html was
visible for a very short time
3. When I cancelled this blank page the sentence I put in C:\Program
Files\Adobe\Adobe Contribute CS3\Configuration\Templates\Default.html was
visible for a very short time

It seems top me taht this delfault.html file is used to create a blank page,
but strangely the sentence I put in doesn't appear visible ijn the draft or in
the published new html file. My version of Contribute doesn't hang on this
page, but passes without any problem to the page I created or the page I was
when I cancelled the new page.

Maybe you should contact Adobe and find out what the reason is for calling
this file or try to reinstall the program.

The file has a function, but I can't guess what it is...
This is the message you get when you remove the file default.html:

http://www.digital-ink.nl/default/index.html

Still my version of Contribute doesn't hang, not even when I remove the file.
Maybe you could try to remove the file...

The file looks like this in my installation:

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">
<HTML>
<HEAD>
<TITLE>&nbsp;</TITLE>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=">
</HEAD>

<BODY>

</BODY>
</HTML>

This happens to me as well. Also, once redirected, the Contribute browser
doesn't update, though the address bar seems functional. That is, Clicking
back and forth with the previous and next buttons seems to work - specifically,
I'll see a message that "so-and-so is editing this page"

Has anyone found a solution?
