Default Again - Dingbats Instead of Body Text

Sorry, I accidentally pressed the wrong key when typing this question the first time so you might get this question twice.

I completed our annual report except for each division's budget. The budgets are in MS Word. When I try to import each budget into its section in the report, I get Zaph Dingbats instead of Body Text. I'm importing it by placing the cursor in the text frame, going to Place, and then opening the Word file.

The type remains Zaph Dingbats even when I change the paragraph style. What am I doing wrong?

I have CS for Windows. Thanks.

Sounds like you might have a character style selected by default. With nothing selected, check the character style palette and make sure it is set to No Character style.

Do what Dave says, but also check all the other palettes for what they are
displaying. They will show you your default settings. You may have no
character style selected, but you may equally have selected Dingbats in the
    past as the default font.
