Default Agfa Selectset 7000 Imagesetter help Apple Mac

Hey all, We are trying to configure an Apple Mac o/s to make use with
an imagesetter, "Agfa Selectset 7000" to be exact.
The Apple is using mac os 8.6, What the problem is, is the
configuration, it uses scsi hookups,
this imagesetter is just like any other printer device just add it, but
how do i do that on this mac version.
Has too much complication. We guess it doesn't let scsi, or does it?
and one of the software to make use of that, quotes "Could not launch
the application because Opentransport seems to be badly configured
Maybe unchec tcp/ip option: "Load only when needed." "

We were wondering can the apple just hook straight up to the
imagesetter, or does it need to be through the rip.
For some reason why would that program ask for tcp/ip and/or appletalk
if we had hooked it up straight-through,
but would straight do the job, or we have to go down the road with
another middle system.
We really don't need to have it networked cos this is the only system
we are going to use with the imagesetter.
If you understand what we are trying to work out. So its not going to
be like plus 10 system trying to contact the imagesetter, only one,
that Mac. On Windows it seem so easy, all we needed to do was add
printer,
and the make and model was located in the drivers list. But in this Mac
we are having that kind of issue.
Hopefully one will have the answer or at least some clue.
Thank you very much.

You need a RIP to drive the 7000, it's not a printer per se.

Check out Xitron (xitron.com), they have Adobe and Harlequin based RIPs
that will talk to it but they aren't Mac based.

It might look that it is SCSI based baded by the cable, but it in fact is
not SCSI at all, You need a RIP and an interface card to connect.
Xitron do great RIPs but I would say that having worked with some of their
people in the past. They used to offer MAC RIPs and cards, but they
seemed to have dropped that now, in which case Highwater.co.uk still
probably offer a solution. But to be honest the speed and cost of a PC,
its makes more sense to have the RIP running on a PC

I had a Viper hooked up to mine. Go to www.jeffweber.net a Viper 3.01
software rip, ps level 2 can be had for $2,500.
