AI 10 files change to PDF

Randomly my AI files turn into a PDF format. They still have the extension but the icon changes to an acrobat one. When I open the file in Illustrator, the page is set to 8' x 8" and some of the text and graphics are broken up or converted to outlines. This happens wether or not I check all of the boxes in the Save window.

Mark, are you using Illustrator 10.0? If so, an update may be in order. Check out the following:

Here is the strange thing. I cannot get my Illustrator to update. It says it worked fine but when I launched the program it still says 10. I reinstalled the program and tried again but that did not work. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Did you have Antivirus software dissabled and file sharing off when you installed the update?

What does the splash screen say the version is at?

For some strange reason I cannot update illustrator. I even tried reinstalling it and no luck.
Any suggestions?

Yes, file sharing is off. I turned off my AutoProtect (Norton) and installed it.
The splash screen says "10"
Do I need to disable Norton Antivirus more than that?

Are you downloading the update from the Adobe site or updating through the AI program?

Just so we are absolutely clear in this matter.

The splash screen says "10"




Open the splash screen again. What does it say the version number is at in the upper right corner of the splash screen just below and to the right of the license to and serial number?

Report back with the ENTIRE version number displayed.

How many times did you try to upgrade? I think you have to trash your AI perferences, repair permissions, restart your system and try agian. Make sure your Anti virus software is off.
