AI 10 Stuck on splash screen

Ever since I installed the Illustrator CS demo, my Illustrator 10 gets stuck on the splash screen on the "Reading Fonts" part. I have trashed everything related to the CS demo I could find, and I have turned off all but the most basic fonts, with no success.

Anyone have any ideas? This is urgent, since I cannot use Illustrator at all right now.

Try turning off even those basic fonts.

The problem is that those are the fonts that run the system. Also, this is something new, those fonts have always been there.

UPDATE: Tried to repair permissions, still the same.

Search your hard drives and delete any Adobeftn05.lst files that are over a few hundred K. For more details, search this forum with the keywords "delete Adobefnt".

That worked, but now, about rwice a day, Illustrator gives me the spinning beach ball. I have to force-quit Illustrator, do a search for adobefnt, trash those, and restart Illustrator. Often there is a 10MB version or more of one of those files. I just trashed one that was over 20MB. Do I have corrupt fonts? does the adobefnt.db need to go?

Yes I would say that you definitely have a corrupt font or perhaps to many duplicate fonts loaded.
