AI 8 install failure on WinXP
An attempt to install AI 8 on Win XP resulted in failure: Autorun screen came up, but nothing when I selected install 8.0.1. I tried win program compatibility wizard in win95 & win98 modes: same result. The install utility started normally on my win95 machine.
I've noticed in the files that others have asked similar questions, but I could find no solutions.
Is there a solution?

Re: AI 8 install failure on WinXP
If you choose to run with compatibility wizard, then try "Windows NT 4.0 (SP5)" mode. One more, turn autorun OFF and just start Setup.exe. There was no problems with my installation of Ai8 on XP.

Re: AI 8 install failure on WinXP
Thanks. I tried both your suggestions, with no success. I've also tried every other option on the Prog. Comp. utility.

Re: AI 8 install failure on WinXP
No compatibility issues were needed for my installation of Ai8 - neither in win98se, nor in xp. I can make these basic suggestions:
1. Check your user account in WinXP. You must have administrator rights to install.
2. Try install in Save Mode. Some drivers may cause problems. Disable resident anti virus protection.
3. It's helpful to see what's in Event Viewer after attempt to install. Or in some ".log" files in your temp directory (like "setup.log" for example).
Good luck!

Re: AI 8 install failure on WinXP
I ran into a similar problem with the CS installer and what I had to do is disable all of the startup functions (START > RUN > "MSCONFIG") and then it seemed to install fine.
Youd' think that an installer would at least run run stable, but Adobe's installers seem to have some problems.

Re: AI 8 install failure on WinXP
Thanks for your help. The problem is resolved (Hooray!) & the program is installed. Here's what I did:
1. Turned off my Norton AV in the taskbar
2. In "msconfig" utility I disabled all components checked on the "Startup" tab, which were: my Norton AV program, and the "Adobe Gamma Loader.exe" program (created in Photoshop 6.0).
3. My autorun feature had been previously disabled, so the install was done directly from the setup.exe file in the Illustrator folder.
