Default AI 9.01 - MPS Parser unable to parse / AI 10.03 - unknown format cannot be opened

    I have both Illustrator 9.01 and 10.03.
When attempting to open an EPS file that was created from Quark 5.01, I get the following error:
Illustrator 9.01 - The MPS Parser is unable to parse this file.
Illustrator 10.03 - 'filename' is in an unknown format and cannot be opened.

This is a rare issue but has happened on occasion with other files.
A co-worker using Illustrator 10.028 was able to open the file that I could not. This sounds like a setting issue to me but I'm not sure what setting it could be.
    Thanks!

I used to be able to paste graphics from Microsoft Applications before
the XP versions but no longer can, I now get the MPS Parser message.
Example: I have a piece of clip art or a rough drawing done in
PowerPoint and want to bring it into Illustrator to change/enhance the
graphic. The solution I now use is to print the page as a PDF, then
open the PDF using Illustrator. It's a few extra steps but it's the
only solution I could find. Hopefully the next versions of Microsoft
Office / Illustrator will be compatible again.

Maybe you could try that solution with your Quark file.
