Default ai files taking forever to pdf (IND CS2)

I never usually have trouble with this, but When exporting a current document with ai logos placed (from Indesign CS2 - low res settings) it is taking forever, and in the pdf progress box it says 'drawing xxx.ai'.

It takes 10-20 minutes to create a pdf.

I'm thinking it's a problem with how the logo is made in Illustrator.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Just converted the same ai files to eps, same problem. Takes just as long to pdf.

How are you doing your pdf? Export to PDF directlty from ID or some other route? What is in the logos? Device indepndent or printer-dependent?

How much free space do you have on harddisk? If harddisk is pretty full it can take a long time to create the pdf as it needs space to create them, space you get back when done, but often quite a lot of space.

    Possibly.

I know that the logo of a well know car facturer is so complicated that many prepress persons have lost all hair about it. A zillion gradients for a 1" by 1" space.

    Well?
    What's in there?

    Thanks for the replies.

I am creating the pdf by direct export from indesign cs2, using low res setting (not that it really matters with vector graphics).

I deleted the Logo that I thought was causing the problem (had a small radial gradient in it, and is step/repeated/faded to be used as a background), only to find the same thing happened with a different ai file. This one only has basic strokes and fills, nothing complicated.

These logo's have been created in house and have been pdf'd/printed before with no issues (that I know of).

I have 120gb hardspace available so no issues there.

I was thinking these logo's could have been created in an earlier version of Illustrator, which could be an issue? I've opened them in Illy cs2 and resaved them as both ai and eps and tried again but no luck.

Right now this job is going to be a nightmare when I have to send proofs back and forward (20 minute pdf time per spread...).

I guess If the worst comes to the worst i'l have to drop the logo's into photoshop and save them as psd's.

There are a few illustrator files which have been copied/pasted into indsign (they are editable in indesign). Could this be the issue?
