AI version 4.01 and Windows XP
I have a new computer (finally!) and have my original version of AI version 4.01 that I am trying to install to Windows XP pro.
Here is the message I keep getting while trying to install: "AI 4.01 requires ATM v. 2.01 or later. Please install the ATM product now and restart AI installation program."
I tried installing ATM v. 2.51 but that did not work. The ATM program installed, but noted its self as "inactive", and the IA installation still displayed the same message.
Suggestions anyone? Sorry - can't afford an upgrade! Thanks in advance - GL

Re: AI version 4.01 and Windows XP
Good Luck..you'll need it in order to install AI 4.xx never mind run it.
Incidentally, I have the same ver of AI as you collecting dust in the corner of the spare bedroom where I work. A big pink box containing 6 or 7 floppies for the main AI app, an ATM disk, a Stremlin 3.x disk and a floppy with an old but fun prog called type align. Is this what you have also...
I tied installing AI 4.xx on my prev PC running Win 98 ver 1. Suffice to say, it did not install, never mind run. A message popped up saying if I remember " this version of Adobe Illustrator will not install. contact adobe for upgrade to later version."
As long as you've registered with Adobe and have the original serial no, I see no reason why you can't upgrade to AI CS, even from ver 4.xx.

Re: AI version 4.01 and Windows XP
Gail,
You need ATM 4.1 to run under WinXP, though whether that will allow you to
run Il 4.01 under XP or not, I really don't know.
That is a VERY old version released to allow Illustrator to run under
Win95 - Illustrator is now up to version 11 (although it is called CS). You
can upgrade to CS for the princely sum of US$169.00

Re: AI version 4.01 and Windows XP
AI 4.0.x requires Windows 3.x. They won't even run on Windows 95 because they have some driver/GDI hacks incompatible with Windows 95 and newer. AI 4.1.x and newer should run on Windows 95 and any newer version of Windows once installation succeeds. I have AI 4.1.0 running on XP, but I don't remember if I installed it on XP or brought it from an old system.
