Default AI vs EPS with Indesign and Illustrator CS

A very strange thing. When I import an AI file with a black composed object (only black), Indesign print it in CMYK! I must save it in EPS to print it correctly. Anyone can help me?

I cannot help you, except to suggest that it looks like, under certain circumstances, InDesign gets an AI wrong but an EPS will fix the problem. Seems very strange, as you say.

I posted a problem (no responses) some time ago which involved an Illustrator AI graphic bleeding correctly on screen but incorrectly when printed, yet when the AI was resaved as EPS, the bleeds all printed fine.

Just why ID can sometimes have problems with AI but not with EPS is a mystery. One of the program's advertised strengths was that native Illustrator files can be used instead of EPS files.

It's not always the case but sometimes. I though it was my printer but when I use the separation palette preview I can see clearly that AI is'nt only black anymore when I import it in Indesign.

I'm using cmyk color space. Is it possible that color management affect only AI files unlike EPS?
