Default AI10.03 Question with a blend wanting to export to PD

I want to export a large blend to Photoshop. I don't know if flattening will affect the color. Would there be any difference if it was Rasterized instead of flattened?

Can't anyone help? It's taking my co-worker about an hour to try to export. The customer freaked out that we changed the artwork. All we did was flatten it, to be able to export it into Photoshot to be able to take out the 1&2%'s. Then replaced it in the original AI document. Printed it out to our Dupont Cromilyn printer.

Granted it will look different from their deskjet printout, because our printout will show the gain on press.

But in flattening the art, could we have changed it in a way we are not aware? I do not think so, but I'm asking just in case.

We havae done this several times before and it hasn't become an issue. I just think that the customer is looking at a inkjet or deskjet printout and expecting the same results.

    O.K.

Still no answer. So I'm going with my gut instinct. We did not change the customers art, they didn't get the results that they thought they would from thier deskjet printout, or monitor or whatever. We can color correct to their printout, but pay the art charges to match that printout.

Does anyone agree to that at least?

Dee if you want to export to Photoshop why not simply export as a .psd ? but I don't think flattening would change the color as long as you keep the same color mode and the profiles match and the color settings are the same and what makes you think that the customer has everything properly set up.

Perhaps you want to supply the customer with your profiles so they can see what you will see more or less depending on how they have their monitor calibrated.

I would have them pay for color correction.

Flattening will raster the art to a degree when you look in the flattening transparency dailog you will see there is a slider to determined the amount of rasterizing to vector.

When the colors overprint they will raster or where they have transparency. Rastering will do exactly that raster.

It will change the color if there are spot colors which will be turned to cmyk when rastered.

But I think you know this.

Yes, Wade, I really was second guessing myself and wanted a backup.

The customer was screaming at our custormer service girl that we changed the art totally. But in fact I think they were just going by the deskjet printout. The only thing we alter on process jobs is 0-2%'s and the print out we give is what is true to press with the gain.

I just wanted to make certain that when she flattened trasperency that it didn't change that much.

Now of cource the customer wants us to match their deskjet printer output. And that's gonna take some time.

Thanx for your opinion, Wade, it means alot to me.
