    Default AI10 Launch Issue

    Hi

I installed a new font to the windows system font folder and now AI at the launch window gets stuck on "Reading Fonts" for about 2-3 minutes and then loads normally.

I tried getting rid of the font but this doesnt fix the problem.

Can someone suggest whats going on and how to fix it.

    Many thanks

    Latchet,

Uninstall THAT font and you should get your ability to launch Illustrator again. Be sure you are using Illustrator 10.0.3 (update if you aren't <http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=27&platform=Windows> ). Illustrator does NOT like corrupted or unstable font files and I suspect this is what you have. Also if you have a ton of fonts (substantially over 150), it's recommended you use an external font manager where you can set active fonts into smaller custom "sets", yet call for the ones you want with a mouse click or two.

    latchet,

The current Adobe applications create lists of the fonts currently active on
your system which are named adobefnt*.LST. If one of those has become
corrupt, it can cause font problems.

Do a system-wide search for adobefnt*.LST files and delete them. (There can
be MANY of them and there will certainly be at least one in every folder
with a font in it) They will be rebuilt as required
