AI10, screen fonts, and Quark 6
I have a client running AI8 on a PC. The graphic I produced for her on my Mac in AI10 (but saved back to AI8) uses the standard Myriad and Minion PostScript fonts.
After my client saved the AI8 file as an EPS and brought it into Quark Xpress 6, she tried to print it and ran into a warning about missing fonts. She made sure she loaded the Myriad and Minion folders onto her PC (she says that Myriad and Minion appear in the Font pop-up menu in the Character palette so she believes the fonts are correctly loaded on her machine).
Now when she tries printing from Quark 6, she gets a new warning. It says that she doesn't have the screen fonts.
Is there anything else, fontwise, that she should have loaded on her PC besides the Myriad and Minion folders? Or is there something in Quark 6 that needs to be adjusted?

Re: AI10, screen fonts, and Quark 6
It sounds like you're sending her the Mac fonts (although you're a little unclear about this). This won't work on her PC.
The easiest solution, by far, is to convert the fonts in the graphic to outlines.
You could also use OpenType fonts of Myriad and Minion which are truly cross-platform.

Re: AI10, screen fonts, and Quark 6
Thanks, Steve.
Actually, I sent her the graphic as an AI8 file from my Mac. (I don't think I "included fonts" if that's an option...I'll have to check.)
She has AI8 on her PC. I don't think her AI8 can handle OpenType fonts. So, as a solution, I asked her to make sure that she has loaded the Myriad and Minion PostScript font folders from CD.
So she did load them (she says) but still gets a "missing screen font" message from Quark 6 when she goes to print the EPS she made from AI8.

Re: AI10, screen fonts, and Quark 6
I get that message sometimes on my OS9.2.2 in AI. It depends on your Rip.
I've even got the message when all type has been outlined. So I suggest to go to find font in AI and see what fonts are listed and if any are - outline them. If not don't worry about it. Probably a blank type path, but I've also seen no reason for a font to be recognized.

Re: AI10, screen fonts, and Quark 6
Good suggestion concerning the blank type path. Because I use MAPublisher to import geographic data into my files, there are many streets that have no names and they result in empty text path objects. Cleaning them out can be a chore, but that might be one reason that things are getting screwy with Quark.
Thanks! I'll check that out.

Re: AI10, screen fonts, and Quark 6
Just because she has a font by the same name does not mean it's the same font. Maybe she should try replacing "Myriad" with "Myriad" and check for reflow problems.
The best suggestion I have heard yet is to change the type to outlines. However, that means that she can't edit your copy...
