AICS: New template layers

Sometimes I add a layer and choose "Template", but it does not make that layer a template layer. I end up duplicating an existing template layer and changing it. Is there a better fix, short of waiting until the programmers correct it?

Are you trying to create a template layer by double clicking on the layer name and enabling the Template option in the dialog box? If so, it doesn't work. Hasn't worked since version 10. I've been told (in mildly cranky terms on this forum and in slightly embarrassed terms by Adobe tech support) that it's a minor problem and not to expect a fix.

If you click on the little arrow to the right of the palette-name tab and select Template, you'll get a locked, dimmed template layer.

Good to know. Thanks. As for Adobe's response, that's pretty shoddy. If they know about a bug, they should correct it, full stop.

Well, that's kind of what I thought. But I was told here that the engineers have better things to do with their time. Be it known that I do not fault the engineers for not fixing it. I assume they are handed task lists that keep them more than busy. I fault whoever it is that makes up the lists for not including a fix for the bug.

Microsoft goes Adobe one better. There's been a bug in the Tables function in Word since 3.1. To my knowledge it's still there. I discovred the bug some years ago when Word suddenly started generating extra pages in a table. It was up to about 300 pages before I could hit the kill switch on my computer.
