align stroke changes dimensions of object?
I'm a veteran Illustrator user trying to make use of InDesign CS2. I'm accostomed to creating an object with a specific size and giving it a specific stroke without changing the size of the object. I have found the "align stroke" options in ID, but it seems to work differently than in Illustrator, in that it will actually ALTER the size of the object in order to change the stroke alignment. But no matter the alignment, the "frame" of the object (what you click on the transform) remains on the OUTSIDE of the object. Only when I select the object and choose the sciccors tool or direction selection tool does the frame suddenly jump to the middle of the stroke, then jumps back to the outside when I choose the selection tool.
I need to create objects whose dimensions are independent of stroke weight. Is this a bug I'm experiencing? Is it possible?
I hope I'm being clear. I understand it's a complicated issue. Thanks for any help.

Re: align stroke changes dimensions of object?
Use the "Align Stroke to Inside" option in the Stroke palette. This sets the Stroke inside the dimensions of the Frame.

Re: align stroke changes dimensions of object?
Go to the Transform Palette menu and deselect the option for Dimensions Include Stroke Weight.

Re: align stroke changes dimensions of object?
That option doesn't help me. I want the dimensions of the frame to be independent of the stroke weight, like in illustrator. When I change the alignment of the stroke in ID, it changes the dimensions of the object, keeping the frame on the outside of the stroke (except when using direct selection tool) regardless of what "align stroke" setting is selected.

Re: align stroke changes dimensions of object?
That sounds like my solution Michael, but I can't find the Transform Palette menu. Where is it?

Re: align stroke changes dimensions of object?
Transform Palette: Window > Object & Layout > Transform
Menu: Click the arrow in the corner of the palette to expand the palette menu.
The option may alse be accessed though the Control Palette menu with the Selection tool active

Re: align stroke changes dimensions of object?
Make sure that you don't have "Hide Frame Edges" toggled on. (Under the view menu, it's Cmd/H). With edges hidden, you would not see the path itself, only the transform rectangle, except when you had a path edit tool such as the scissor.
As described earlier, including the stroke as part of the dimension is an option.
