For existing documents? Make the change to the Stroke palette setting and save the document.

For new documents? Make the change to the Stroke setting WITH NO DOCUMENTS OPEN, quit and restart InDesign to verify.

    Where to make the change?
    Global:
    Stroke Palette (more options enabled)

    By Frame Type:
Object Style Palette > Basic Graphic Frame > Stroke & Corner Effects
Object Style Palette > Basic Text Frame > Stroke & Corner Effects

    HTH

    -mt

EDIT: I misread the fact that you are in CS instead of CS2. The Object style Palette is not available in CS.

NOTE: Changes made to the preference with a document open only affects that document. Changes made to the preference with no document open, only affects NEW documents. Any existing documents must be changed individually.

You cannot set this for frames drawn with the frame tool. Graphic frames (despite the name of the one default object style) do not take on any presets but are hardwired.

Looks like a bug to me as you can set all the settings the usual ways but as soon as you drwa the frame with any fo the graphics tool it switches to the default frame-stroke, outside and non-stroked.

This discussion is philosophical. "Bug" means unexpected behaviour. It is expected behaviour that the graphic frame tool (as opposed to the rectangle tool) does not pick up any user defined presets.

You can only say it was a bad decision to make it so. Make your voice heard to change it: <http://www.adobe.com/support/feature.html>.

I don't see it as expected behavior or intended behavior either Gerald. I see it as a bug.

Sad news: calling something a bug is not about what *you* expect.
The question is what is defined in the specs of the programmers.

So you can only say it was a bad decision to make it so. Make your voice heard to change it: <http://www.adobe.com/support/feature.html>.

Ps. did I mention that I agree there should be a way to preset graphic frames?

Gerald I know what a bug is and the difference between intended and not inteneded behavior and where to report bugs as well.

In a situation where there IS a way to set a preset parameter for an object without having a document open and without having the object selected, and it then, as soon as you use the tool disregards those parameters, that I see as a bug. If it was as intended, there would not be a way to set those parameters unless the object was already created and you did it on created object. At least in the same applicaation (and not inter applications) I expect the behavior to be equal in equal situations. If it is not, then it is a glitch or a bug as I see it ;)

Nini, did you ever study philosophy by any chance? This discussion reminds of those days far back in the past <smile>.

In a situation where there IS a way to set a preset parameter

That's my point. There is no way to preset the parameters of the frame tool. Only of the rectangle tool (and those others that create unassigned paths).
This is not the way it should be.
But it is not a bug.
    Its just wrong.
And since this is simply a discussion about the meaning of words (we agree on how things should be after all) I think we can tell it a sunday?

    Thanks
