All purpose lens (cannon 28-105mm or 28-135mm?) - Photography

I currently have an EOS 3000N and a 28-90mm lens that came in it's kit. I've been advised to get a better lens and was initially thinking about getting the cannon 28-105mm lens. However would it be better to get a lens with a slightly longer focal length, say the 28-135mm. Is there much difference between these two lenses in terms of quality/price? Thanks in advance Andy...

I concur with Larry. I shoot regularly with some very high quality FD
primes, so my standard is reasonably high, and I have no complaints about
the EF 28-135. It constantly surprises me. And pleasantly, I might add!
    ;-)

They are both good all purpose lenses.

The 28-105 f/3.5-4.5, the better of the two 28-105s, is about $220US.
The 28-135 IS is about $400US.

The difference optically is minimal, both good. For the extra #180US
for the 28-135 you get the extra 30mm in length, but more important than
that, you get the Image Stabilizer feature.

You will have to decide if the length and the IS are worth the extra
    $180US to you.

BTW, a friend loaned me his 28-135..... I'm thinking I need one!
