Not really. I seem to recall an article some time ago about doing
perspective shadows that seemed pretty cool and I remember thinking at the
time... I know how I'd do them, but I'd be interested to see if there's a
    better way...

A picture is (often) worth a thousand words... seeing what CAN be done is
often what leads one to inquire on how its done. Although *my* focus is with
Fireworks, I'm sure that most of your tutorial introductions, regardless of
application, could benefit from a picture that shows an end result.

As I mentioned to you shortly after launch, subscription is prohibitively
expensive for me - I can buy a whole week's groceries for the monthly cost.
In addition, as I said, my focus is with Fireworks - I also have some
Dreamweaver interest, but that's pretty much where it ends, so most of your
stuff doesn't interest me. I would however be willing to pay a couple of
bucks to see things that are of interest. Not being able to see the end
result before paying out is not worth it for me. I see it as like me selling
my style files based on description alone... I don't think many people
    would buy them!

    Rich,

I am a CMX subscriber and right now my principal interest is FW and some DW.
I'm trying to learn CSS and understand HTML better as well. I can get
access to all of the CMX experts for this. My subscription is not limited
simply to the articles that are published and maybe some free or reduced
cost extensions. The forums are extensive, and I can ask any question,
float any idea, or suggest a tutorial or article that I would like to see.
In fact, some of my suggestion have been turned into tutorials and articles!
Not only that, as I am working through some of the material, or simply
working on my own project, I can get the experts to check it out for me and
offer suggestions or fixes. It's far more than simply buying a bunch of
articles that are just published online.

Your point is well taken, and, as you have seen, the CMX people take it
seriously and are taking your comments back to their partners. I can't
believe that I have such personal, fast, and friendly access to such a
varied group of people who are well known in the web community.

Anyway, that's my comments. I have never been disappointed by CMX and they
are open to any and every idea, suggestion, comment, critique or whatever.
They are truly building a community!!

    Craig.
PS - I for one appreciate all of the styles that YOU have made available to
all of us and for providing real examples of work for us to study. Thank
    you, Rich!

I'm not doubting that you are keeping to your commitment, a challenge in
itself for which you are to be commended. I simply think this would improve
your service by showing people what they'll achieve by going through a
tutorial. Right now, the difficulty level and wow factor is far from clear
    from each introduction.

    I may take a 10day free trial...

It sounds like you are a little upset. In a way it's an advertisement, but
the articles they are advertising are not all for a fee and whether you like
one or not doesn't negate that considerable work went into them. We have
free extensions and commercial ones and when we release something new we
also announce it in these forums. If you have an axe to grind, your approach
could be more direct... especially if you want to be taken seriously.

    thanks Al

You put it nicely - I was a little annoyed because someone has gone to a lot of work to set up a community to help and educate web developers, and Pooley had nothing constructive to say about it.

I think its great to see people creating such resources - and I certainly don't feel that it is someone spamming the forum - they are not trying to sell anything from what I could see. And even if they are it is still highly relevant to Macromedia web developers so it does fit the forum

    Cheers

Although I prefer to offer content for free myself on my current Styles
site and for my upcoming project, I absolutely disagree with this Pooley
person. I think that it is only plausible that people like you want to
educate others and let them become the most of what they CAN be. I also
find Pooleys comments baseless and rude. You guys help make the
community become aware of their individual potential, whether it be for
free or for a small fee. What is 2 dollars to learn something new in
Flash compared to what you can earn yourself a living doing it for a
client? It is a small fee compared to your ROI.

By the way Chris, your comment made me laugh - something I have not been
    doing the past three days.
