Another case of Extension Manager Issues.....
Like a previous post on this forum, I have led a life of misery the past couple
of weeks with a new Windows installation.
I have the MX suite (version 6.01 Dreamweaver) installed and like many other
posts, also use Kollections. I have used it the better part of two years with
great success (except wading through poorly documented tutorials).
However, my new installation (Windows XP Professional/SP2) isn't doing so
well. Many of the problems seem to stem from Extension Manager.
No matter how many times I've installed my array of extensions (and
reinstalled DW) many Interakt with Kollection included), sooner or later,
they end up under Fireworks or Flash and have disappeared from DWMX altogether
in the list of installed extensions.
Worse than that, my Sites listed under DWMX disappear constantly. requiring
that I reinstall them.
I have Dreamweaver 8.02 (required for later versions of Kollections and KTML
4) and aside from the fact that DW8 is a navigation nightmare compared to many
earlier editions of DW, it also over-writes previously installed extensions in
DWMX that won't operate in DW8.
On my previous system, this was never an issue and with many extensions of
various manufacture, I could run extensions in both programs.
My gut feel is that the old system, which was XP Professional but with only
SP1 installed, may have run well in that scenario because SP2 for Windows
XP was NOT installed.
I cannot think of any other logical reason why I'm encountering so many
problems lately except tha the only difference is that SP2 for XP is installed..
Any suggestions regarding this issue would be appreciated.
One final parting shot.....consistent with other comments I've seen
lately......
Allaire (original ColdFusion) and Macromedia's acquisition of CF brought many
good things to the table. Great program, it was only enhanced by the inclusion
into the Macromedia MX suite which also included DWMX. Both companies were
outstanding in customer support on issues as they arose.
Than came the Adobe acquitision of Macromedia and it's been downhill for DW
and CF ever since.
Even more sad is that Interakt (Kollections) has now become a part of the
Adobe package. It was great doing business with them, broken English and all.
Those folks were quick to respond, knew their stuff, and resolved almost all
issues promptly.
Since the Adobe acquisition of Interakt, it's been a rapid downhill plunge.
Now, the current issues noted above.....all under Adobe control.....
I have been doing this kind of work for nearly 15 years and I have to say,
this latest round of nonsense has become the most frustrating and discouraging
set of issues yet.
