Re: another slow redraw
That's just due to the fact that OS X drawing is a bit slower. (sort of a quartz issue).
You would get that in OS 9 sometimes.
Turn the preview checkbox on and off for comparisons.

Re: another slow redraw
I'm definitely getting the slows redraws on all my Macs running Panther and Photoshop CS in Prepress shops. I have plenty of Photoshop files that grow to a 1.5gb or bigger. I'll try removing the Altivec plugin and see if it helps.

Re: another slow redraw
Chris is right! I don't get the redraw problem if I turn on and off the preview check box, let's say, while making a curves layer but after I "OK" the curve - when I turn on and off that same curve layer in the layer palette I get the bad refresh. We all know that you need to turn on and off adjustment layers in the layer palette while you are correcting an image. This tells me that the problem is with Photoshop NOT my Mac. Maybe it's just a simple Photoshop cache problem. Seems like an easy fix for the Adobe techs.
BTW - Chris, since you have not experienced the problem, how did you know that it did not happen while using the preview check box?

Re: another slow redraw
I'm not clear here. Where do you turn the preview off that Chris is referring? Is it the turning off AND on that does it or leaving it in an OFF or ON state?

Re: another slow redraw
If I add a curves layer - as I am adjusting the curves layer there is a preview check box - to view the image before and after the move. When that preview is checked and unchecked I can see the before and after redraw just fine - image redraws over image. I then OK that curves layer and go to it in the layers palette - now when I turn the "eye" of that same curves layer off and on I get the slow redraw (over transparency/white blocks).

Re: another slow redraw
Got it! Thanks. I'm going to Scrapbook this thread because this has been an issue reported off and on in these forums for some time and it's now been pinpointed at least with some precision.
Of course there may be other system scenarios I've missed and would be enlightened by anyone else with a solution. None the less I believe this is an important discovery.

Re: another slow redraw
The layers redraw will be somewhat slower - because it involves more data than the preview.
And other users were reporting that even previews were drawing slowly.
And the big question is : how much slower? (is it just the fact that the tiles are larger, or is it really, really slow)

Maybe itīs about the info palette problem, too?
Itīs worth a try.

Re: another slow redraw
Although the redraw is slow - the fact that it redraws slow often over transparency tiles is the frustrating part. If it would redraw slow, image over image, I might not be here posting.
Also, let's not forget that brushing is painfully slow. At this point, because of the brushing issue, I'm one of the few here still using CS. I have a G5. Most of the G4 users have given up and are back to PS7.

Chris - We could provide you with a reproducible case (5 or more). If you're in San Jose we are close by in San Francisco.

Re: another slow redraw
Cee - Photoshop has gone to the transparency grid since 3.0 IF the redraw is going too slowly. If the redraw goes quickly, you never see the grid.
