Anti-aliasing issue in Illustrator CS
I create fine line art with text captions. I am currently examining Illustrator CS and I am having the following problem. When I select the "anti-aliasing" option in general preferences it anti-aliases everything not just the text, so all my line art (0.25pt or 0.5pt black stroke) displays as grey lines even though they are black. Highly problematic. Turning off the option results in the lines being properly displayed but the text being displayed as bitmaps. Is there any way to have the text anti-aliased but not the rest of the artwork?
I should mention that I am still using Illustrator 7 and have been for the better part of 6 years. I first noticed this problem in Illustrator 9 and haven't upgraded yet for this very reason. Please tell that there must be a way to have anti-aliased text without ruining everything else.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
sincerely,
Richard J Burton

No anti-aliasing in Illustrator?
Hi! If we paste a clipart/image in Illustrator, it seems that Illustrator will automatically apply anti-aliasing to the final result and "smooths"... -

Re: Anti-aliasing issue in Illustrator CS
Well there is a difference in the previews you would expect that I think?
Either way this prints to my non postscript inkjet perfectly.
I don't see any gray lines no matter how thin I make the strokes?
Perhaps your monitor profiles need to be updated. I just said perhaps you might want to look into it.
But I ma curious even at this late time in the morning, if you noticed this in v9 why didn't you update to v8?

Re: Anti-aliasing issue in Illustrator CS
Maybe some clarification is in order.
1.) Not having the artwork preview correctly is a problem.
2.) I am using a poscript printer.
3.) The artwork is printing in aliased mode, so yes, the effect isn't just restricted to the preview, but affects the printing as well.
4.) This problem (non-existent in Illustrator 7 and earlier) is noticeable on my Apple Wallstreet powerbook, my new iBook, my Dell at work, my colleagues Dell at work. Which is to say that it is not restricted to a particular print profile, machine, or OS.

Re: Anti-aliasing issue in Illustrator CS
I am using Illustrator CS and I have noticed the same problems with display.
I am not worried about how it will print as I have faith that will work out fine, it's just I want a CLEAN display. I don't understand why this is happening in the new CS.

Re: Anti-aliasing issue in Illustrator CS
Sorry, there is no way to selectively turn off antialiasing in Illustrator. You could display your files in an Acrobat reader - Adobe Reader 6.0 shows antialiased type and non-antialiased line art.

Re: Anti-aliasing issue in Illustrator CS
Why is Illustrator CS NOT displaying correctly? Is it a program flaw? I certainly have enough memory.
