    Unfortunately many have been discontinued

    You can upgrade the memory to 160MB (1 32MB chip and 2 64MB). You could
    put in a big faster hard drive too.

    Install Mac OS 9. It has password protection.

    Your best bet for CPU upgrades which will allow you to run 9.1, woudl be

    Yes the system can be password protectected. OS 9.x has sucha feature built
    in, besides this you will need On Guard for pre 9.x systems.


    Also, can the system be password protected?

    And, one more question, The modem does not seem to initialize, is
    there any way of testing it to see if the modem is broke or not?

    Try a app called Global Village Z Term, which allows you to perform some modem
    level AT commands. I use it all the time when testing my modem. Something I
    cannot easily do with Windows Hyperterminal.
