Any opinion on MX Kollection? (NEED ADVICE!)
I am new to Dreamweaver (converted from Adobe GolIve--Yak!). I am not a
programmer. I have decided to use MySQL with PHP. I am just now beginning to
learn PHP and MySQL. I have developed a MySQL DB (using a FANTASTIC GUI called
EMS MySQL Manager3--which makes it soooooo easy), and have established my
connection to it within DW.
I need to make the site dynamic, using the DW server behaviours and data
bindings. Therefore, I'll need to create Recordsets, and some will require
joins and nested tables. ***WHAT TO DO??
I have read about the MX Kollections third-party DW extension software package
that intergrates into DW, and I've reviewed it at the www.interAKTOnline.com
Web site. I've checked out the Flash demos, etc, and it seems to be worth the
$299.00, but I don't know whether it does everytthing it claims to do with all
of the 6 separate features (QUB--Query Builder--, MX Looper, MX Widgets, etc).
Does anyone have any advice about this product. I desperately need something,
as I migrated to DW mainly because of it's built-in dynamic, data base
development tools.
PLEASE REPLY.
Thanks,

Re: Any opinion on MX Kollection? (NEED ADVICE!)
I also have Kollection and I seriously don't know how I functioned
without it before for so many years. You may find the learning curve a
bit steep at first as I did, but like anything once you get it figured
out you certainly won't regret it.
It was the first extension I purchased from them, now I have almost all
of them.
Oh as to the learning curve, the support is great! Also some very
knowledgable people participate on the support forums.
Another one I highly suggest is MX Includes. You'll love Kollection
though! You can do much and so easyily.

downloaded ever since DW became extensible, this is one of the very few
that really add productivity to my workflow.
It would take forever to outline all of the features.
http://www.interaktonline.com/Solutions/ pretty much explains what you
can use the extensions for.
Even if you're proficient in PHP, the transaction engine the Kollection
products are based on provides for easy handling of dynamic data
without reinventing the wheel everytime for a common task like creating
a form, validate, store data in a database, send an email afterwards
and show a confirmation page etc.
As for recordset creation, the QUB query builder does the job - it
lacks for some comfortable GROUP clauses, but usually that's not the
tough part - I actually learned how JOINs work by using QUB.
You can use MX Looper for nested tables just fine, it's a lot quicker
than by handcoding or using standard repeat regions from within DW.
I think there is a trial version around, but let me assure you, MX
Kollection is worth twice the money. As the Kollection is very
powerful, it'll take a while to learn how to use all of its features
right, but after doing some of the tutorials included with the product
you'll pick it right up.
Regards,
Bernd
