Any recommendations for A4/A3 colour laser?
Hi everyone,
I have been trying to find info/comparisons on the web on colour lasers
but I'm quite overwhelmed by the technical details and I'd also prefer
advice from real users in the graphic design field.
We do have a mixed work environment of architects, interieur- and
graphic designers, 11 networked Macs (Os 8-9, 100T Ethernet), using
FreeHand 8 and VectorWorks.
The requirements are:
- speedy (int. hard disk, plenty of RAM, fast processor)
- A4 & A3 size
- genuine Adobe PS
- excellent image quality, usable for softproofing press jobs
- duplex option
We don't require high volume output but speed is very important. I'd be
grateful for any recommendations or hints as where to obtain more info.
Thanks!
Cheers Martin

We use a Xerox Phaser 790 which does everything you require. I think today's equivalent is the Phaser 7750 but you will need to check that out. Only downside is cost...
Kind regards

Martin,
I use a Xante Colour Laser with no problems. As Simon said, the only downside is cost. You get what you pay for.

Re: Any recommendations for A4/A3 colour laser?
The Xerox Phaser 7750 printer is optimised for shortest "first page
out" time. If you compare the 7750 to either previous generations of
Xerox colour laser printers, or to current models from various
competitors, I think you'll be impressed. You won't be disappointed
by print quality either.
Truth in posting: I am employed by Xerox, and I am one of the product
development team members (controller board hardware design).

Both printers look like very solid performers, now I need to find a
local dealer that has them set up and running.
Thanks for your suggestions!

Re: Any recommendations for A4/A3 colour laser?
I just bought a 7750 and am having a hell of a time getting what I
want out of it. Using Pagemaker 7.0 under OS9.1 with the proper PPD
and desktop printer icon (I'm hooked in via USB). I'm sending
tabloid-sized files to Tabloid Extra sheets in the MPT-1 paper tray.
When I can get a page out of it, the image is scaled up over 200% and
the resulting pages are useless.
Nice color, though.
