Re: Any UBUNTU in Chicago?
The reason why I am asking, because my net connection is slow (it took me
6hrs to get the ubuntu dvd from a server i don't know where it is) and then
i found out that md5 numbers are incorrect.
I use sbc yahoo dsl and I don't know why, but the download rate is really
bad, that's why I 'm looking for a close servers so the download wont take
me tooooo long :)
THank you all

If your downloads are that slow you should be complaining to Yahoo or
changing ISP's It should only take you around 2Hr or so to downloads
the ISO , that's pretty much a max time.. if it taking 6 hrs I can down
load it here on a dial up account faster than that so I would say Yahoo
is the problem not the server.

Or do you means even https://shipit.ubuntu.com/ is too slow for your
connection? ;-)
But you'll have to wait a few days for the next release.

That depends on his connection speed - not everyone has fast internet> changing ISP's It should only take you around 2Hr or so to downloads

access (many ISPs in the UK still offer 512kbit, although most have now
upped the minimum speed offered to 1Mbit)

move on your ISP's network until they reach a junction where they can
switch to the "other guy's" network. Try playing with traceroute, and
discover that a connection from your Ameritech/SBC address to Roosevelt
University (Congress Parkway and Michigan Avenue) may be routed via
New York, while a connection to the University of Chicago may be routed
via Denver or Seattle or some other "nearby" city.
Bottom line - pick a site that is in the US and don't worry about it.

Re: Any UBUNTU in Chicago?
It's probably going to be more effective to download the CD version to
install from and then do a net install of the additional stuff you want.
I also had several bad DVD downloads before I got an image that had the
correct MD5 sums.

Re: Any UBUNTU in Chicago?
Did you ever download your app? We could work something out to send you one from Wyoming. I just
received another package of CDs from the Ubuntu folks.
I'll check back herein for a reply.
