You can use a mask with Blend modes to do that easily enough. Here's a

Tried the "export transparent image" under "help" yet? If I understand correctly, you need a clipping path, that'll do it. -

Just define an area with the marque tool and then apply whatever effect you want - in this case just select Commands > creative > convert to greyscale

That works, but without the flexiility that masks give you. In the event you
want to modify the image after it's been saved you'll have to start all
over. With masks you'll only need to edit the object that is being used as a
mask.

Instead of using the marquee tool, use the Pen tool to mark around the
object you want to convert to black and white. When you've gone all the
way around and complete the path, the shape you drew with the Pen tool
will fill. Apply the Saturation blend mode to the shape.
