AOL quits on a Powerbook 1400 with 9.2.2 - Mac Applications & Software

I upgraded my 1400 to 9.2.2 using OS 9 Helper, copying the system over after installation on another computer as necessary, using the Nubus firmware option. The only unexpected problem is that AOL 5.0 quits with type 2 or 3 errors immediately upon launch, as soon as the blue startup screen appears along with the word "initializing". I have tried dozens of extensions sets, the standard fixits and utilities, plus reinstalled the operating system and AOL several times apiece without any change. Finally I reinstalled 9.1 alongside 9.2.2, using System Picker to alternately startup from each. The extensions sets are ...

Default AOL quits on a Powerbook 1400 with 9.2.2

I upgraded my 1400 to 9.2.2 using OS 9 Helper, copying the system over after

The only unexpected problem is that AOL 5.0 quits with type 2 or 3 errors
immediately upon launch, as soon as the blue startup screen appears along with
    the word "initializing".

I have tried dozens of extensions sets, the standard fixits and utilities, plus
reinstalled the operating system and AOL several times apiece without any
change. Finally I reinstalled 9.1 alongside 9.2.2, using System Picker to
alternately startup from each. The extensions sets are virtually identical,
including third party, yet the same AOL application launches perfectly under
9.1 and wants no part of 9.2.2.

Does anyone have a guess at a solution (other than a cliche recommendation to
dump AOL)? I realize 8.6 is probably the best OS for a 1400, even with Ram
Doubler. My dial-up modem (US Robotics) performance s with 9.1, regardless
of machine, so I'll have to retreat to 8.6 unless AOL can coexist with 9.2.2 on
    the 1400.

    Thanks,

How much memory have you assigned to AOL?

I have plenty of memory assigned to AOL. The phone support is indeed
surprisingly convenient and competent, but today they could not suggest
anything beyond what I have already tried.

Tonight the creator of OS 9 Helper responded to my email describing the
problem. He thinks it may be related to NameRegistryLib, which is supposedly
problematic on Nubus machines like the 1400.
