    On my server, it's part of the apache2-common package.

    apache2-common did not give me apache2.conf, only :

    conf.d mods-available ports.conf sites-enabled
    httpd.conf mods-enabled sites-available ssl

    So I still get an error when I invoke /etc/init.d/apache2 start :
    * Starting apache 2.0 web server...
    apache2: could not open doent config file /etc/apache2/apache2.conf

    That's weird, since it's part of apache2-common on my Dapper box. By
    the way: if you want to find out which file belongs to which package,
    use apt-file:

    $ apt-file /etc/apache2/apache2.conf
    apache2-common

    This works even for packages you haven't installed! Just "apt-get
    install apt-file" and then "apt-file update".

    Should be:
    $ apt-file search /etc/apache2/apache2.conf

    Nice tip though, I had not seen this, works great, thanks.
