    Default Apparently missing font.

I opened a document in CS that was created in 2.0.2 and the document shows that I am missing Arial Black Italic. The font is properly installed and shows up fine in ATM. Not sure whats going on here.

Yup. I've seen it too and it's a bit of an annoyance. Apparently the two
read the names of the fonts a bit differently. You just have to fix it
by choosing a "replacement" font and save the file in CS format.

So does that mean that I won't be able to use Arial Black Italic with CS? After replacing and re-saving the font still shows inactive.

That's an odd one. I never had that kind of problem. Are you absolutely
    sure it's installed?

The font is installed I have been using it for awhile, and it worked fine in ID 2.

This is strange. It is something with the document. It was created in ID 2 but I resaved in ID CS. Arial Black Italic will not work in the document. If I create a new doc and create type with arial black italic it is fine if I copy and paste into the original document it shows up with the pink highlighted text - unavailable, then if I copy it back into a new blank document its fine.

I'm confused. Oh well, I'll just use a different font for that document.

Could it be that one application is seeing the font as the black Italic
weight of Arial, while the other is seeing it as the italic font of Arial
    Black?

I also ran into this problem--I deleted all the font lists (.lst files) for InDesign, which seemed to fix the problem. Good luck!

Text Missing from pdf Indesign 2.0.2
Could anybody help i have encountered a problem with pdf creation from Indesign which driving me mad.
The problem seems to be restricted to certain letters in text (the F,L) for example the word reflecting appears as re ecting in the resultant pdf file although the Indesign document has all the correct letters in the text.
The only short term work-around i have found so far is to change the typeface to Truetype from Opentype but this not ideal as we deal with a lot of Welsh translated text and therefore punctuations and language circumflex issues.

Make sure you completely embed the font...set subset fonts below to
zero. If that doesn't work, turn ligatures off.

    Thanks Bob

Turning the discretionary ligatures on in the opentype option seems to work when applied to the whole document.

This problem doesn't occur on some team members same spec Pc's using the same software and Design suite very wierd!

May try de-installing and re-installing the software and checking the installion process, i installed the previous version myself but somebody else did this installation for me.
Thank you once again for your assistance and prompt reply

Uninstalling will not trash the prefs file. Try doing that first.

Can I refer you to my post entitled 'Weird Missing Fonts message' which hasn't yet got a reply?

My issue seems somewhat related to this thread, with ID2 identifying a font that isn't missing and in fact doesn't exist.

Default Arial Black font with InDesign CS2

    Hi there,

I'm having a bit of a problem with the Arial Black font in InDesign CS2. I recently got a new computer running Windows XP. The computer has had MS Service Pack 3 installed. When I installed my old fonts onto the new computer and booted up InDesign, I noticed there was no Arial Black font, only Arial Black Italic. When I looked under the Arial group of fonts a Black version of the font was there, but on my old machine Arial Black is a separate font group. I've tried deleting the font cache and adding the fonts to the InDesign fonts folder as well, but it still doesn't register as a separate font family. I've also tried installing an older version of Arial Black (2.35 from 2004) and emptying the font cache but still no joy. The problem is I work on a newspaper and this font is quite common, and is used on our templates, so when I receive a page I need to change the font, which isn't ideal. Interestingly, the file name of the font is ariblk.ttf, but when you look at the icon it appears to be OpenType. The Arial Black Italic font is called ARBLI__.TTF and has a TrueType icon, and this appears as a separate font family in InDesign. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Many thanks in advance.
