    Could you do it all in the customized progress bar?

    If not, look into the doentation on "deferred instantiation" and
    "creationPolicy". You could probably manippulate thee to get the effect you
    want.

    That would probably work... Any idea on how to do it? I got the following code
    and modified it, but it doesn't seem to work. Instead of the standard
    initializing screen I get a blank white square. I also want to have an image
    above the bar. I put this class in the preloader for the application tag.

    Thanks

    class content.as.appLoadProgress extends mx.preloaders.DownloadProgressBar
    {
    static var symbolName:String = "content.as.appLoadProgress";
    static var symbolOwner = content.as.appLoadProgress;
    var className:String = "appLoadProgress";

    var progressText : TextField;
    var __label : String = "TEST";
    var __indeterminate : Boolean = false;

    function appLoadProgress() {
    _visible = true;
    display("Starting appLoadProgress");
    }

    function display(val : String) {
    progressText.text += "\n" + val;
    }

    function set label(val:String):Void {
    __label = val;
    display("Set Label to " + val);
    }

    function get label():String {
    return __label;
    }

    function setProgress(completed:Number,total:Number):Void {
    progressText.text = "LOADED: " + completed + " TOTAL: " + total;
    }

    function set indeterminate(val:Boolean):Void {
    __indeterminate = val;
    if (val)
    progressText.text = "Initializing...";
    }

    function get indeterminate():Boolean {
    return __indeterminate;
    }

    function set visible(val:Boolean):Void {
    _visible = val;
    }

    function get visible() : Boolean {
    return _visible;
    }
    }
