apt-get install mplayer under RedHat - Linux Setup, Configuration & Administration

Hi, What url to add to my etc/apt/sources.list to allow me to 'apt-get install mplayer'? Multimedia packages such as mplayer or video-dvdrip are unofficial, so if you do 'apt-get install mplayer', you will get: Reading Package Lists... Done Building Dependency Tree... Done E: Couldn't find package mplayer The solution is to add the unofficial url to etc/apt/sources.list. My question is, what to add? Thanks -- Tong (remove underscore(s) to reply) *niX Power Tools Project: http://xpt.sourceforge.net/ - All free contribution & collection...

Default apt-get install mplayer under RedHat

    Hi,

What url to add to my etc/apt/sources.list to allow me to 'apt-get install
    mplayer'?

Multimedia packages such as mplayer or video-dvdrip are unofficial, so if
you do 'apt-get install mplayer', you will get:

    Reading Package Lists... Done
    Building Dependency Tree... Done
    E: Couldn't find package mplayer

The solution is to add the unofficial url to etc/apt/sources.list. My
    question is, what to add?

    Thanks

    1) Here is sources.list from this RedHat9 PC.
    Comment/uncomment the appropriate lines.

    # cat /etc/apt/sources.list

    # This file should contain an uncommented default suitable for
    # your system.
    #
    # See http://ayo.freshrpms.net/ for a list of other repositories
    # and mirrors.

    # Red Hat Linux 9
rpm http://ayo.freshrpms.net redhat/9/i386 os updates freshrpms
    #rpm-src http://ayo.freshrpms.net redhat/9/i386 os updates freshrpms

    # Red Hat Linux 8.0
    #rpm http://ayo.freshrpms.net redhat/8.0/i386 os updates freshrpms
    #rpm-src http://ayo.freshrpms.net redhat/8.0/i386 os updates freshrpms

    2) Run:

    apt-get update

    apt-cache search mplayer

    apt-get install mplayer
    apt-get install mplayer-skins

But wouldn't 'apt-get install mplayer-skins' be sufficient since
mplyer-skins depends on mplayer and apt-get will resolve the dependancy?
