I have been trying to move to perl 5.8 to get the Unicode support.
Unfortunately, Archive::Tar fails the tests the following way:

cpan> test Archive::Tar
Running test for
module Archive::Tar
Running make for K/KA/KANE/Archive-Tar-1.10.tar.gz
Is already unwrapped into directory
Has already been processed within this session
Running make test
Prepending /usr/local/perl/cpan/build/Archive-Tar-1.10/blib/arch
/usr/local/perl/cpan/build/Archive-Tar-1.10/blib/lib to PERL5LIB.
PERL_DL_NONLAZY=1 /usr/local/perl/bin/perl "-MExtUtils::Command::MM"
"-e" "test_harness(0, 'blib/lib', 'blib/arch')" t/*.t
t/02_methods....ok 4/0Can't use string ("Unknown") as a symbol ref while
"strict refs" in use at /usr/local/perl/lib/site_perl/5.8.5/IO/Zlib.pm

# Looks like your test died just after 4.

after all the subtests completed successfully

make: *** [test_dynamic] Error 2
/usr/local/bin/make test -- NOT OK

Has someone a hint of what could cause it ? Archive::Tar is working just
fine for perl 5.006...

TIA for your help,

Jerome Walter
