Artifacting in Illustrator 10

    Default Artifacting in Illustrator 10

    I have some objects in a large Illustrator file that seem to have tiny "strokes" around their edges, even though they're not supposed to be stroked at all. You can see an example in a close-up image:

    <http://homepage.mac.com/gmaletic/.Public/problem/artifacting.gif>

    If you notice, you can see some weird artifacts around the pink object in the middle of the image. This purple hairline is visible when viewed at any magnification. My first inclination was that it was simply a quirk of the way Illustrator draws things...but this dark hairline is -actually- in the file. When I view the file in Apple's Preview, it's there. Stranger still, when I reverse the fill and stroke colors on the object, the interior becomes purple, even though it should be transparent! (Where it gets the purple from, I have no idea.) And when I view the object's "attributes," there's nothing unusual there.

    Has anyone seen this? Is there a way to fix it?

    I'm using Illustrator 10 for Mac on OS 10.3.3.

    Thanks.

    So you're saying that nothing is overprinting in the attributes pallet?

    I have seen thin white lines, but when zoomed in they are not there and they don't print out. But I also do not have OSX.

    Have you tried to print it out to see if it is actually there?

    Oh! I do remember one job I did that had a lot of masks that changed a certain color to a different color. Maybe you can look further into the document and take away some unnesasary masks and transparacies?

    I could try to look up the actual link I posted up for you if you want.

    I fixed the problem, but the solution wasn't very elegant: I cut the elements out of the layer and pasted them into a new layer...and it worked fine. It seems like I had two layers in my document that were "corrupted" in some sense. I ended up cutting all of the elements out of them, pasting them into new layers, and the artifacting was gone.

    Weird.
