asking again about posters...
I got no response earlier; I'm gonna try again!
At my job here, we print alot of in-house posters. We don't have a large format printer and back in my G4 days the printer drivers installed a "poster" option for print...
Now I have a G5 (COOL BEANS!) and adobe's CS suite for print. I have a spankin' new epson c84 printer that apparently no longer has the "poster" option in its print set up box. I tried to tile my work in illustrator and print a poster that way, but margins are being left in and there is gaps in the artwork where the pages join together.
I asked my teacher at school how to remedy the "gapsters" and he said you couldn't in illustrator. I'd have to send it all over to another page layout program (rhymes with "stork") where they offer an option to be rid of margin's AND overlapping trim which illustrator and indesign don't have. I looked for those type of settings with illustrator (mac 10.3.3?! don't know what program is running the printing process!!!)) and can't figure it out. I'd much rather use illustrator and indesign everthing I do for print! I seriously don't like working with the stork!
Could somebody PLEASE tell me if it is possible to print posters in illustrator/indesign with 8.5 x 11 inch standard paper sizes? AND HOW TO DO SO? Is there 3rd party software if there isn't? I've checked with epsons site for how to's but they have nothing on the subject... I just came back from the tutorial section of Adobe's site here - do I have to export to acrobat to print posters?
THANKS FOR ANY AND ALL HELP!
Kim

Does your printer print 8.5x11 Borderless?
Did you try to select the paper size as Any printer in the page set up or create a custom page?

Re: asking again about posters...
I thought InDesign CS had an option in the new print dialog to do auto-tiling including overlap so that you can cut the margins off and overlap multiple pieces of paper?
But maybe I don't understand what the poster print thing does for you.

Envelope - printing poster sized artwork using standard sized paper: 8 1/2 X 11, that one trims and glues together. I see no large format printer in our future (we're nonprofit), so I'm stuck trimming and gluing...!
But, I found it what you two are talking about! There is an overlap option. I came from a G4 with v.9.2 OS and was used to another program for poster printing. The X OS along with ID CS is fairly new to me. I am in college for graphic design and they just switched over to the Adobe CS print, so all of us are learning the programs together. I'll be playing around here to get it to work!
Thanks Wade & envelope for the help!
