ASP.net MySQL

Hey!

Im trying to grasp the concepts of ASP.net - I know Classic ASP which I
enjoy to program with.

I can connect to a Access Database - but I am having extrem problems
with connecting to a MySQL database.

I tried the direct connection to the MySQL database like with a SQL
server- i knew it wouldn't work because its not a MS product but i tried
it anyway.

I then treid a DSN and that didnt work

and i tried a driver and that didn't work *frustration*

does anyone have any example code of connecting to a MySQL database that
works in VB.net code?

I have searched the web but can only find examples in C code - i can
program in c code - but vb is easier....hey why work harder when you can
work smarter...

It mentions a native MySQL driver as a third-party component, but I don't
know if it's required or not.

That is really cool alan! I appreciate that heaps!

Do you know where i can find something free? (i know that is free for
personal use) but its no use if the server doesn't have it and i build a
website on the local server and when i upload it to the main server it
falls over..

I don't know much about it sorry. Try doing a search for MyODBC. I think
they're ODBC drivers for MySQL but again, I'm not sure about the licensing
issues.
